How To Recover Deleted Files In Windows

Undefined Soul 7:08 PM Add Comment

If you have deleted some of your important files accidently then the first thing you will do is panic. But I am going to teach you how you can recover your deleted files.Using this method you can recover files that have been

  • Deleted from the Recycle bin
  • The files which have been permanently deleted using SHIFT+DELETE key
  • Files deleted from your Memory Card

Before starting the tutorial for recovering the deleted files I will explain the basics of file deletion which will help you understand that how and why file recovery is possible.

How File Deletion Works

Whenever you move a file to recycle bin or permanently delete a file the file is actually not deleted from the hard-disk instead that file space is marked as free by the operating system so that new files can be written at that space. So, if no new file is written at that place then you can recover the file easily but if you have placed some data in that particular drive then it is possible that the data be written on the same location from where you have deleted your file.It will make the data recovery difficult or impossible.

Note:-Donot put any new data on the Drive from which you have to recover you data because it may hamper your data recovery chances.

This method works on windows platform and is completely free.
Now,Lets begin the step by step tutorial with screenshots on How To Recover Deleted Files In Windows

Reset BIOS Password Without Removing the CMOS Battery

Reset BIOS Password Without Removing the CMOS Battery

Undefined Soul 11:52 PM 1 Comment

Almost everybody of you know how to Reset any computer's BIOS password.
Anyways if there are few who doesn't know then, basically what we have to do is, we just need to open the CPU, and just take out the CMOS BATTERY and put it back in, That will reset the BIOS Settings.

So, if you need to reset the password then what i have here is a utility, that can Clear, Save, Restore BIOS settings.
You can remove the passwords, if you want to save your bios settings, you can save it and later on can restore them.

    * Product name: CMOS De-Animator v2 (DE-CMOS2.EXE, 206kB)
    * Application version: 2.0
    * License: Freeware
    * Supported OSs: All Windows OSs except Win95 and NT 3.51

CMOS De-Animator v2

CMOS De-Animator v2 is a service utility for your system's CMOS RAM. Unlike its predecessor, the CMOS De-Animator 1.0, the new version includes a graphical interface and CMOS-backup options along with the "Clear CMOS" procedure, which was the original version's only purpose. So, you can now backup the main CMOS settings to a file, or restore them later. The application supports all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems except Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51; for these old systems, you have to use De-Animator's previous version.

Like with De-Animator 1.0, one-time activated administrator privileges are required, if the application is ran for the first time in your system. CMOS De-Animator v2 now includes a self-test on its startup to check, whether the CMOS can be successfully accessed to. After successful execution with the status "Ready to go" visible, the application can be normally used even under non-privileged accounts on your machine (i.e. under an user account). This doesn't apply to Windows 98/ME, where the utility works instantly.

What's new in version 2.0:

- Simple graphical interface with three possible actions: clear, save or restore the CMOS RAM
- Test CMOS reading at the startup, as mentioned above.
- No need to download a separate version for 64-bit systems.
- Compared with De-Animator 1.0 x86, less false-alarm messages from some picky antivirus programs.

How to Use Windows 7 Without Activation

How to Use Windows 7 Without Activation

Undefined Soul 10:51 PM Add Comment
Most of you might be aware of the fact that it is possible to use Windows 7 and Vista for 120 days without activation.
This is actually possible using the slmgr -rearm command which will extend the grace period from 30 days to 120 days.
However in this post I will show you a small trick using which it is possible to use Windows 7 without activation for approximately an year! Here is a way to do that.

1. Goto “Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories” . Right click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator“. If you are not the administrator then you are prompted to enter the password, or else you can proceed to step-2.

2. Now type the following command and hit enter

slmgr -rearm

3. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Once restarted the trial period will be once again reset to 30 days. You can use the above command for up to 3 times by which you can extend the trial period to 120 days without activation.

4. Now comes the actual trick by which you can extend the trial period for another 240 days. Open Registry Editor (type regedit in “Run” and hit Enter) and navigate to the following location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

5. In right-side pane, change value of SkipRearm to 1.

6. Now you will be able to use the slmgr -rearm command for another 8 times so that you can skip activation process for another 240 days. So you will get 120 + 240 = 360 days of free Windows 7 usage.

120 days using “slmgr -rearm” command before registry edit

+

240 days using “slmgr -rearm” command after registry edit

= 360 Days
 So Enjoy..!!

Registry Tweaks to improve your Windows 7 Experience

Undefined Soul 11:53 AM Add Comment
Windows 7, like earlier versions of Windows operating systems allow users to edit registry entries to customize system settings. Below are some of the tweaks that you can use to do this.

Warning: Remember to backup the registry before implementing any of these tweaks. You can do this from the Registry Editor utility or by using a Windows 7 compatible registry tool.

How to Apply these Tweaks?

To make your task simple I have compiled all the tweaks into a Registry file which you need to Run by double clicking on it. The changes that this script is going to make are given below. If you don’t want all the changes to be made just edit the file and remove the part that you don’t want to happen. In case of any doubts you may write it in comment.
  1. Adds “Copy To” and “Move To” options in files and folders context menu, so that you can easily copy and move them to other locations.
  2. Sets Windows to automatically end task of programs which are either hanged or taking longer time than expected to exit.
  3. Decreases menus show delay time, it’ll show the sub-menus fast when you select their parent menu.
  4. Disables the low disk space check so that you don’t get the annoying low disk space notification in system tray.
  5. Sets Windows to not waste time in searching for a program which no longer exists in your system when you try to open its shortcut.
  6. Disables “search on Internet” prompt in “Open with” window so that it directly opens the program list.
  7. Speeds up the Explorer navigation.
  8. Adds “Take Ownership” option in files and folders context menu so that you can easily take ownership of files and folders in case you want to replace them for customization purpose.
I assure you it’ll not harm your system in any condition and its completely safe to apply. You just need to download the script and double click on the script.

How to revert back to Default State

In case you did something wrong and now you want to revert back to the default state then you may Either use your back up that you had taken before applying the script or else you may use my uninstall script.

How to Recover Important Data after your System is Crashed ?

Undefined Soul 11:49 PM Add Comment
Suppose your computer commits suicide by inviting the latest virus and you are not able to get it back up and running. As a last resort you decide to backup your important documents, photos that you took of your girl friend and the ASCII text file containing your passwords. Today I will show how to do this very easily.

Create a System Rescue CD

Use an uninfected computer and download the System Rescue CD ISO file (latest version) from sysresccd.org. Now burn this ISO to a blank CD.

Start the rescue

After the ISO is written to CD, take it out, pop the CD into the drive of the computer that’s busted. Set the BIOS to boot through the CD first, hard disk next. And allow it to reboot.
You should see this beautiful System Rescue startup screen. Type these options after the boot: prompt and press ENTER.

rescuecd docache dostartx dodhcp

The docache option allows you to remove the System Rescue CD after it boots up, so you can enter another blank CD/DVD and take backups.

The dostartx option starts GUI automatically.

The dodhcp opiton automatically configures the network and connects you automatically to the Internet after booting.

Load the appropriate keymap when prompted (or just select the default US keymap).

It should start GUI automatically. In case it doesn’t, type startx at the command line and press ENTER.

Your desktop should have a terminal with a yellow background. We need to mount the partition and then do the backup.

Your Windows partition will most likely be located in /mnt/sda1 or /mnt/sda2. To check the partitions, run this:

fdisk -l /dev/sda

It should show you the partition names.

Then, to mount partition 1, run this:

ntfs-3g /mnt/sda1 /mnt/windows

If it mounts correctly, you should be able to see the files in your C:\ directory when you type:

ls -al /mnt/windows

Backing up your data to a CD/DVD

Now, to begin backing up your data, type this:

xfburn

The Xfburn program will show you a list of your partitions. Browse to the Windows partition(s) using the Filesystem menu option on the top-left and select all the files you need. Click on New Data Composition. Insert a blank CD or DVD and allow to burn all your data to the CD/DVD.

Backing up your data to a remote location

This is easier if you love using the command line. First, make sure the network is up by pinging to google.com

 ping google.com

If it throws up an error, you have to run this to configure your network interface:

net-setup eth0

If you want to transfer the files in the directory C:\work to your remote server myremoteserver.com as user anyname

The directory C:\work would be located in /mnt/windows/work. This command will transfer the directory:

scp -r /mnt/windows/work anyname@myremoteserver.com

Enter the password for user anyname and the file transfer will begin.
